My husband, Photius Drakos, and I recently organised an impromptu photoshoot in our backyard. Our goal was to collaborate and combine my passion for traditional Indonesian dance with his passion for photography.
We aimed for an effortless look in the shoot, and went for an unstructured approach. My husband prefers shooting spontaneously without too much planning, as long as the general idea was there to guide him. I danced slowly in front of the camera while he captured moments as they unfolded.
Once we finished, he transferred the photos into Adobe Lightroom and did a quick edit using his custom Lightroom presets. All his presets are named after cities or towns he’s visited in the past. Since the photos featured my traditional Balinese dance, we thought it would be fitting to use the Yogyakarta Lightroom preset, subtly showcasing both sides of my heritage.
Indonesian-born, Aussie-raised, and deeply connected to my roots. From childhood curiosity to cultural events, my passion for dance ignited at the age of 10 when my parents introduced me to traditional Indonesian dance classes at the consulate, marking the start of an exciting journey into my heritage through the art of dance.
